Volvo Cars has won for the first time the Europe’s most important award, and the new XC40 is the “European Car Of The Year 2018”.
The victory of the XC40 reinforces the position of the Swedish SUV’s full line. The XC90 and XC60, for example, were awarded in the last two years.
“Volvo now has three SUVs available globally for the first time. The XC40 will contribute to strong brand growth, taking us to a new and fastest growing market segment: compact SUVs”, says the President and CEO at Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson.
Reservation requests exceeded 20,000 units in Europe and the United States. In Brazil, more than 325 cars have already been reserved.
XC40 is the first model of Volvo’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), as well as the first to use the Car Sharing feature. That is, once again owners can simply share the XC40 with families and friends without needing a physical key.
With this launch, Volvo Cars offers the Care by Volvo service, which enables access to the car by a fixed monthly subscription contract instead of the car ownership. In Europe and the US, for example, this service makes a car accessible in the same way as a smartphone.
XC40 is equipped with safety and driver assistance features such as City Safety, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert with assistance and braking, and 360 degree camera.
Regarding the design, there are more storage units for objects such as the functional space in the doors and under the seats, an exclusive area for smartphones, which includes the induction charging, hanger, and removable dump on the console central.
“We have a growth strategy and we are committed to lead the automotive safety, connectivity services and electrification”, comments the President and CEO Samuelsson regarding hybrid and 100% electric car options that will be added to the Volvo range in the future.
The initial units of the XC40 arrive in the country this April. Stay tuned on Novo Luxo and visit Volvo Cars for more information!
